Fantasy Baseball 2012: Week 24 Batters, Waiver Wire Pickups

Yahoo Contributor Network

To stay ahead of other teams in your fantasy baseball leagues, it is important to scour the waiver wire and free agent pool to pick up batters that will help your team succeed in the present and future. Here's a look at five batters owned in less than 50% of Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball leagues* who are worth adding in Week 24.

OF Coco Crisp, Oakland Athletics (48% owned*)

Statistics*: 108/425 H/AB, 58 R, 10 HR, 42 RBI, 34 SB, .254 AVG

Currently on a seven-game hitting streak, Crisp is one of the many contributors to Oakland's success, particularly on the road. After slumping earlier this month, he has bounced back and put up some solid numbers in the leadoff position. As a run-producer in the position of opportunity, Crisp could a late-season addition worth owning.

OF Cameron Maybin, San Diego Padres (41% owned)

Statistics: 114/460 H/AB, 64 R, 7 HR, 43 RBI, 25 SB, .248 AVG

With a hit in all but one game this month, Maybin has been on an incredible hitting streak for San Diego. While he hasn't done much in terms of home runs, RBIs, or stolen bases this month, he's had a very hot bat, collecting 18 hits and scoring eight runs in 12 September games. Similar to Crisp in terms of what he can provide for fantasy teams, Maybin's consistency in September could be helpful.

OF Ben Revere, Minnesota Twins (38% owned)

Statistics: 133/445 H/AB, 62 R, 0 HR, 31 RBI, 36 SB, .299 AVG

Another player with great speed on the bases and a hot bat as of late, Revere has taken advantage of his increase in playing time. Currently third in the American League with 36 steals, he is another option to consider for runs, batting average and stolen bases.

1B Adam Lind, Toronto Blue Jays (20% owned)

Statistics: 63/262 H/AB, 23 R, 10 HR, 36 RBI, 0 SB, .240 AVG

Deviating from the first three players on this list who are dangerous players due to their speed, Lind is a slugger who recently made his return to the majors. Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas, he has been a surging hitter, going 12-for-44 in 12 September games. With his job for next season on the line, Lind is a motivated hitter who could be a big help at first base.

2B/3B Logan Forsythe, San Diego Padres (11% owned)

Statistics: 73/257 H/AB, 33 R, 5 HR, 23 RBI, 7 SB, .284 AVG

Previously splitting time with Alexi Amarista at second base, Forsythe has now taken over the starting role and has swung a hot bat. With five multi-hit games in September and a nice amount of RBIs, he has quietly become a fantasy force. For owners seeking help at second base, Forsythe could be the nice short-term role player addition that can help teams win it all in the end.

Other Week 24 waiver wire adds of interest: New York Mets 1B/2B/3B Daniel Murphy (48%), Colorado Rockies 1B/OF Tyler Colvin (36%), Kansas City Royals OF Jeff Francoeur (27%), New York Mets 1B/OF Lucas Duda (23%), Miami Marlins OF Justin Ruggiano (20%)
