Fantasy Baseball 2012 – Week 22 Most-Added Pitchers: Fan’s Review

Yahoo Contributor Network

While trades are a great way to acquire the best pitchers for your fantasy baseball team, the waiver wire and free agent pool are also a great source for finding key contributors and pitchers that will help your team win on a weekly basis. From pitchers currently on a hot streak to players expected to breakout or produce in a new situation, here are the most-added pitchers from Week 22 of the 2012 fantasy baseball season.

Monday, September 3: SP Zach Britton, Baltimore Orioles, 10,136 adds*

After an excellent last outing against the Chicago White Sox where he struck out a career-high 10 batters, Britton went into a matchup on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays with a lot of momentum. After winning his last three starts, owners picked him up and were confident of what he could provide. Britton did not disappoint by continuing his solid roll, throwing seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts.

Other top adds of the day: San Diego Padres SP/RP Eric Stults (9,332 adds), Seattle Mariners SP/RP Hisashi Iwakuma (5,489 adds), Toronto Blue Jays SP/RP Carlos Villanueva (5,446 adds)

Tuesday, September 4: SP/RP Miguel Gonzalez, Baltimore Orioles, 17,540 adds

Like his teammate Britton, Gonzalez had a great start against the Yankees where he also threw a career-high in strikeouts (nine). Unfortunately for him, his fate in his Week 22 start against the Blue Jays was not the same, as he allowed five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Other top adds of the day: Zach Britton (4,417 adds), Los Angeles Dodgers SP Aaron Harang (4,395 adds), Pittsburgh Pirates SP Kevin Correia (4,054 adds)

Wednesday, September 5: SP/RP Marco Estrada, Milwaukee Brewers, 13,757 adds

In his last start against the Pirates, Estrada recorded his third double-digit strikeout performance of the season. With his third-straight great outing, owners picked him up for a start against the Miami Marlins. Despite his recent success, he failed to excel in the good matchup, lasting only five innings and allowing four earned runs.

Other top adds of the day: Zach Britton (8,772 adds), Baltimore Orioles SP/RP Jason Hammel (6,638 adds), New York Yankees SP/RP David Phelps (4,793 adds)

Thursday, September 6: SP A.J. Griffin, Oakland Athletics, 17,413 adds

Teammate Brett Anderson is not the only Athletics starter putting up great numbers. Following his great September 7 start against the Mariners, Griffin is now a perfect 5-0 this season and has allowed a measly 42 hits in 57 innings pitched this season. He has yet to have a bad start in the majors, making him a reliable starter for the rest of the season.

Other top adds of the day: Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (9,364 adds), Zach Britton (5,391 adds), Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler Skaggs (4,969 adds)

Friday, September 7: SP Bronson Arroyo, Cincinnati Reds, 9,323 adds

Solid in his first start in September against the Houston Astros, Arroyo was fortunate to once again face the worst team in the majors in his Week 22 start, this time at home. There was not much different about this result, as he allowed just one earned run again and extended his win streak to five games. While some of his season numbers have been underwhelming, Arroyo has been the most consistent start for the Reds in the past month.

Other top adds of the day: Hisashi Iwakuma (6,729 adds), Washington Nationals SP/RP Ross Detwiler (6,423 adds), Zach Britton (5,592 adds)

Saturday, September 8: SP Zach Britton, Baltimore Orioles, 13,238 adds

After success in Toronto, Britton was picked up once again for one of his toughest starts of the season on Sunday against the Yankees. After four great starts, he struggled against New York, lasting only 3 1/3 innings and allowing five earned runs and five walks. While he was on a hot streak, it is not too surprising to see him struggle against the same team he had his only other loss of the season to back on August 1.

Other top adds of the day: Philadelphia Phillies SP/RP Tyler Cloyd (11,659 adds), Chicago White Sox RP Hector Santiago (8,639 adds), San Diego Chargers SP Andrew Werner (7,466 adds)

Sunday, September 9: SP/RP Kyle Kendrick, Philadelphia Phillies, 11,563 adds

In Kendrick's last five starts, he has gone 4-1 and has allowed two or fewer runs in each start. A two-start option in Week 23, including a first start against the Marlins, Kendrick was a popular addition, particularly in weekly lineup leagues entering their first week of playoffs.

Other top adds of the day: Eric Stults (5,922 adds), Atlanta Braves SP Mike Minor (5,815 adds), St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (5,291 adds)
