Fantasy Baseball 2012 – Week 21 Most-Added Pitchers: Fan’s Review

Yahoo Contributor Network

While trades are a great way to acquire the best pitchers for your fantasy baseball team, the waiver wire and free agent pool are also a great source for finding key contributors and pitchers that will help your team win on a weekly basis. From pitchers currently on a hot streak to players expected to breakout or produce in a new situation, here are the most-added pitchers from Week 21 of the 2012 fantasy baseball season.

Monday, August 27: SP/RP Hisashi Iwakuma, Seattle Mariners, 13,011 adds*

Coming off this third straight start resulting in a win, Iwakuma was afforded another generous matchup on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins, a team he decisively beat on August 17. To the over 13,000 owners who picked him particularly for this start, he did not disappoint, allowing just one hit in six innings pitched. While his strikeout numbers per start are declining, he has been a very good fantasy starting pitcher all season long.

Other top adds of the day: Oakland Athletics SP Brett Anderson (7,428 adds), Atlanta Braves SP/RP Kris Medlen (6,893 adds), Oakland Athletics SP Tommy Milone (6,069 adds)

Tuesday, August 28: SP Brett Anderson, Oakland Athletics, 6,302 adds

Still available in a sizeable amount of leagues at this time, Anderson produced again on Monday in his second start in 15 months since undergoing elbow surgery. Allowing just two hits and striking out five against the Cleveland Indians, he has shown no signs of rust since his return.

Other top adds of the day: San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito (5,578 adds), San Diego Padres SP/RP Eric Stults (5,190 adds), Milwaukee Brewers SP/RP Mike Fiers (5,089 adds)

Wednesday, August 29: SP/RP Kyle Kendrick, Philadelphia Phillies, 9,476 adds

Excellent in his last three starts, owners added Kendrick for his upcoming start against the New York Mets. He followed through for those owning him, as he extended his winning streak to four games with a 7 2/3 inning performance which included a stretch where he retired 13 straight batters. Pitching very well since returning the rotation, he's worth adding in deeper leagues depending on the matchup.

Other top adds of the day: Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (5,827 adds), Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello (4,214 adds), Kris Medlen (3,348 adds)

Thursday, August 30: RP Ronald Belisario, Los Angeles Dodgers, 12,423 adds

With closer Kenley Jansen unavailable with an irregular heartbeat, both Belisario and Brandon League will share the closer's role. With the Dodgers in the thick of a playoff race and likely having many close contests, having a prospective closer in Belisario could be a nice late-season addition.

Other top adds of the day: Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake (8,425 adds), San Diego Padres SP Clayton Richard (5,676 adds), Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (5,204 adds)

Friday, August 31: SP Brett Anderson, Oakland Athletics, 6,279 adds

Successful in his second start of the season earlier this week, Anderson was swooped up for his toughest challenge to date in the Boston Red Sox. Anderson once again put up an excellent outing, holding the Red Sox to just one run on five hits in six innings. With no sign of slowing his success, he is one of the best late-season pitching additions of the year.

Other top adds of the day: Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (6,217 adds), Milwaukee Brewers SP/RP Marco Estrada (6,040 adds), RP Ronald Belisario (4,890 adds)

Saturday, September 1: SP Bronson Arroyo, Cincinnati Reds, 12,395 adds

A winner in seven of his last eight starts, Arroyo looked to add another win to his record against the worst team in the majors in the Houston Astros. While failing to record the win, he pitched his fifth straight start with three or fewer allowed runs. A consistent starter on a playoff-bound team, Arroyo's streak of quality starts has made him a serviceable fantasy player.

Other top adds of the day: San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly (5,336 adds), Brett Anderson (5,171 adds), Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (4,821 adds)

Sunday, September 2: SP Jeff Locke, Pittsburgh Pirates, 6,368 adds

A reliever in his first two appearances of the season, Locke has his first start of the season against the Astros. An very good starter with Triple-A Indianapolis, his first major league matchup of the year is a favorable one that could turn out good for owners taking a chance on him.

Other top adds of the day: Washington Nationals SP/RP Ross Detwiler (6,095 adds), Mike Fiers (4,982 adds), Tommy Milone (4,140 adds)
