Fans lash out at Jets' Brandon Marshall over 'other' Marshall's protest

DENVER — For years, Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall has been confused for the New York Jets receiver Brandon Marshall, the more famous player who scores touchdowns for your fantasy team.

For one night at least, the roles were reversed.

During the NFL’s regular-season opener on Thursday night in Denver, the Broncos’ Marshall took a knee at the end of the team’s lineup for the national anthem. He apparently was joining old college teammate, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, in protest of racial injustice.

The Jets’ Marshall has a Twitter handle is @bmarshall, which can be easily confused for a handle owned by the Broncos’ linebacker, it was clear where this was headed.

Without counting them up, let’s just say the Jets receiver must have been sitting at home preparing for a quiet night watching the NFL’s opening game when he was bombarded with some angry, angry mentions.

There were a few other tweets that aren’t suitable for a family website, but yes, for one night the Jets’ Marshall got to experience what the Broncos’ Marshall gets when people get him confused for the more well-known receiver.
