Fan’s Preview: Can Giants Slow Down Rockies’ Jhoulys Chacin?

The Colorado Rockies and "solid pitching" are typically not synonymous with one another, but the San Francisco Giants are getting a little taste of that in this series. On Monday, the Rockies got four solid innings from starter Alex White and will now welcome right-hander Jhoulys Chacin to the mound on Tuesday. Since sitting out 3 1/2 months with right shoulder inflammation, Chacin is back and pitching well for Colorado.

In four starts since being injured in May, he has allowed only four runs over 21 1/3 innings. While most of the outings were against non-playoff teams, Chacin has looked like the starter who won 11 games and struck out 150 batters last season. Still riddled with control concerns, he has averaged over two walks a game this season and could be an area Giant batters can capitalize on.

As for Madison Bumgarner, he'll be going for his third win of the season against Colorado. Like Monday's starter Ryan Vogelsong, Bumgarner has also struggled as of late, losing his last three starts with a 6.48 ERA. With an opponent he's had success against this season, he will hopefully break his streak of rough outings like Barry Zito did on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
