With just three games left in the regular season and the NL West title all wrapped up, the San Francisco Giants will now get a chance to play spoiler in their last series of the regular season. Up against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers who still has an outside chance at making the playoffs as a wild-card team, the Giants could effectively end their hopes by winning on Monday night.
The Dodgers are two games away from being eliminated from the second NL Wild Card spot. If the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds and if the Giants beat the Dodgers on Monday night, Los Angeles will officially be out of the running for a playoff spot. For many Giant fans, there would be nothing better than to end their regular season by shunning the Dodgers from postseason play.
Matt Cain could have a chance at being responsible for the loss that ends the Dodgers' playoff chances. In what will be his last regular season start, Cain will likely start Game 1 of the National League Division Series Saturday in San Francisco. With just one poor start in his last nine outings (five allowed runs against the Chicago Cubs on September 2), he looks more than ready to lead the Giants to postseason success.
The San Francisco Giants will visit the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodgers Stadium located in Los Angeles, CA on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 7:10 p.m. PT. This will be the first game in a three-game series.
Giants lead series 12-6.
