Falcons release Asante Samuel, Stephen Nicholas

The Atlanta Falcons have released cornerback Asante Samuel and linebacker Stephen Nicholas, the team announced on Wednesday.

Samuel spent the past two seasons with the Falcons and came up with six interceptions and 20 pass deflections. He was a key contributor to the team that reached the 2012 NFC Championship game.

Nicholas had been with the Falcons for the past seven seasons after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL draft. He had 397 total tackles, 10 tackles, two interceptions and five forced fumbles during his tenure.
