Falcons place Biermann, Ewing on IR

The Atlanta Falcons lost defensive end Kroy Biermann and fullback Bradie Ewing to injured reserve Monday.

Biermann tore his right Achilles tendon and Ewing separated his left shoulder during Sunday's 31-24 win over the St. Louis Rams.

Coach Mike Smith said Monday that both players are out for the season.

Defensive ends Jonathan Massaquoi and rookie Malliciah Goodman will get bigger roles with Biermann out.

Biermann had two tackles before being carted off the field in the second quarter.

Jason Snelling will fill in for Ewing. Snelling had a rushing touchdown after starting running back Steven Jackson left the game with a thigh injury. Snelling has played fullback and running back during his seven seasons in Atlanta.

Smith did not provide an injury update on Jackson.

Ewing had one catch for 14 yards before injuring his shoulder in the first quarter. He also had a season-ending injury last year when he tore his right ACL before his rookie season.

Also, wide receiver Roddy White has been dealing with an ankle sprain and his playing time is limited.
