Fairfield 55, Old Dominion 54

Old Dominion guard Donte Hill missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with five seconds remaining, and Fairfield held on to beat Old Dominion on Saturday night at the Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.

Freshman forward Marcus Gilbert made a free throw with 2:39 remaining to give the Stags (9-5) a 53-52 lead, and junior forward Maurice Barrow made a layup with 1:12 left to put them up by three.

Old Dominion center DeShawn Painter scored on a second putback attempt with one second to go after Hill missed from 3-point range, but it wasn't enough for the Monarchs (2-11).

Freshman forward Amadou Sidibe scored a team-high 10 points and Gilbert tallied eight points and 10 rebounds for the Stags, who have won five in a row and six of seven.

Senior guards Derek Needham and Colin Nickerson also scored eight points for Fairfield, which won despite being outrebounded 33-23.

Painter had game highs of 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Monarchs, who suffered a huge letdown after upsetting Virginia a week earlier. Sophomore forward Richard Ross added 15 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks for Old Dominion.
