MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Cruz Azul midfielder Marco Fabian is among 18 players on Mexico's roster for Wednesday's exhibition game against the United States in Glendale, Ariz.
Fabian was a member of Mexico's team that won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. He has not played for the national team since appearing for 13 minutes against Ivory Coast in August but has six goals in 11 games this season for Mexican league leader Cruz Azul.
''I'm very happy about this because it gives me a great opportunity to show my potential,'' Fabian said. ''It's important not only because of this match, but because it's a chance to stay on the team for the World Cup roster.''
Cruz Azul left back Rogelio Chavez also was picked, but Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jesus Corona was left off. Cruz Azul plays Tijuana in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals on the same night.
It's Chavez's first call-up for Mexico.
''I do not know what it means to play for the national team, it's something that I never imagined,'' Chavez said. ''I know that it's now or never for me, so I will die on the pitch to win a spot for the World Cup.''
Forward Oribe Peralta asked not be called up because of personal issues that were not announced. The roster includes seven players from America, Miguel Herrera's former team, and Mexico captain Rafael Marquez of Leon.
Goalkeepers: Moises Munoz (America), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca)
