Are you in the mood to do a little fishing? Would you like to help out a non-profit in the process? If so, you may want to clear your calendar for Wednesday, September 19, 2012. There is a celebrity fishing tournament scheduled to kick off in Long Island, New York, on that day and you may want to take part in it. Here are a few more details:
Montauk Tournament Basics
The event is none other than the F.C.A. Montauk Redbone. It is a team based, catch and release tournament that is designed to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It is also considered to be part of the Redbone at Large Celebrity Tournament Series. The series includes a multitude of venerable events including the Jeb Bush Florida Classic and Hook the Cure.
The tournament is scheduled to take place Wednesday, September 19, 2012 through Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina located in Montauk. One of the celebrities expected to participate in the event is renowned chef and restaurateur, Tom Colicchio. Colicchio is considered to be one of the best in the business. He is also the founder of Craft Restaurants.
The first day of the celebrity fishing tournament is reserved for opening day festivities, including the kick off of a silent auction. The actual fishing is slated to get underway on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Participating anglers are expected to fish until 3 p.m. on Thursday and from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday. An awards party is scheduled to take place on Friday as well. During the tournament, participating anglers will be fishing for striped bass, bluefish and false albacore.
How to Register
Two person angling teams interested in fishing in the Montauk tournament will need to pre-register and remit a $3,500 entry fee. The entry fee includes admittance into the tournament's social events and a guide fee. An entry form and additional details are available on the event's website.
About the Venue
The Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina is located on Star Island Road. It is an amazing place that has been the site of many special events, including the filming of various television shows. Its marina offers visiting anglers access to boat slip rentals, pump-out services, a fish cleaning station and more.
As of Friday, September 14, 2012, the surface water temperature around Montauk was 71 degrees Fahrenheit. The water level was 2.31 feet. Those water conditions are expected to continue through the celebrity fishing tournament. Participating anglers may also look forward to a new moon occurring on Sunday, September 16, 2012.
