Ex-Oklahoma State running back to transfer to Lamar

Former Oklahoma State running back Hershel Sims has decided to transfer to Lamar University, he announced Saturday night on his Facebook page.

Lamar is a Football Championship Subdivision team, meaning Simms does not have to sit out a year by transferring to the Beaumont, Texas, school.

Sims was dismissed for violating team rules, coach Mike Gundy said June 1. A freshman last season, Sims rushed 31 times for 242 yards.

He had two 100-plus yard games and scored two touchdowns. He was third on the Cowboys' tailback depth chart behind juniors Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith.

The Abilene, Texas, native was expected to play a season of junior college football and then transfer to Baylor, according to the Tulsa World. However, it appears Sims wanted to play immediately rather than sitting a season.
