Ex-Major Leaguer Daulton has brain surgery

Former major league catcher Darren Daulton had surgery on Monday to remove two tumors from his brain, CSNPhilly.com reported.

The operation, which was performed by Dr. Kevin D. Judy at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, took seven hours.

Judy said afterward that Daulton, 51, is in good spirits and is already talking. However, it will be awhile before doctors can judge his recovery. One of the major concerns is his language function, which was the issue that brought Daulton to the doctors initially.

Daulton played 14 major-league seasons, almost entirely with the Philadelphia Phillies. His final season was 1997, which his split between the Phillies and the Marlins.

He was named to the All-Star team three times..
