Everything still to play for, insists Barcelona's Messi

Lionel Messi insists all is still to play for after Barcelona draw 2-2 with Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Sunday night.

The Catalans remain eight points clear of their closest rivals and it was Messi who scored both Barcelona goals while Cristiano Ronaldo also helped himself to a double for Madrid.

The Barca forward believes a draw was a fair result in what was an exhilarating Clasico but the match will have no bearing on the final league standings come the end of the season.

“It was a beautiful game, we could have won, and they also could have won,” said Messi.

“We seek to win but it's not easy. We played against Madrid and we knew it would be very complicated. We were close to ending [only] five points above.

“We went to look for the result but we knew we had in front a very good Real Madrid team, with very good players. We're still eight points clear but we know that there is still much to play for.”

The Argentina international was however, reluctant to speak on either his or Ronaldo’s personal performance.

He added: “I'm not speaking individually, no one is special. These games motivate everyone to play, not only Cristiano Ronaldo and me."

Ronaldo became the first player to score in six consecutive Clasico’s when he opened the scoring after 23 minutes.

Messi evened things up eight minutes later before curling a superb free-kick beyond Madrid keeper Iker Casillas just after the hour mark with Ronaldo equalizing for Jose Mourinho’s side five minutes later.

Barcelona travels to Deportivo on Oct. 20.
