TENNIS: Eugenie Bouchard in tears as she retires from match at China Open

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard is apparently still suffering from the effects of a concussion she suffered after a nasty fall at the US Open over a month ago.

This match, at the China Open in Beijing, was the first she had been able to even start since sustaining a head injury in New York - she withdrew from her last two scheduled tournaments in Asia.

Bouchard was trailing 6-2, 1-1 to Andrea Petkovic when, visibly distressed, she had to stop. The official reason given afterwards was dizziness. The always-sporting Petkovic tried her best to offer words of comfort, but this will be another discouraging moment for Bouchard.

It's been a difficult year for the 21-year-old, who has struggled to get past the first round in a number of tournaments and barely managed two wins in a row at all. She has slipped from a career-high ranking of 5th in the world to a lowly 36th, with a win-loss record so far of 12 W and 17 L.

However, she seemed to be overcoming these troubles at the US Open, finally beginning to show some of the form from her breakthrough year in 2014, the highlight of which was reaching the Wimbledon final. After the locker room fall, she had to pull out of her fourth-round match and has been suffering ever since.

Bouchard recently teamed up with noted coach Thomas Hogstedt for a short-term trial. Hogstedt has previously worked with the likes of Tommy Haas, Maria Sharapova and Li Na.

Here's hoping Genie is able to recover from this latest setback and get back to her best for 2016.
