MLS Preview: Houston Dynamo - New England Revolution

For the second time in a week the New England Revolution dropped points at home.

On Wednesday, Real Salt Lake came from behind to post a 2-1 win in Gillette Stadium. On Saturday, a 54th minute goal from Diego Fagundez seemingly gave the Revs a foothold over the visiting New York Red Bulls early in the second half.

Yet the Red Bulls responded a mere one minute later, courtesy of a goal from midfielder Lloyd Sam.

“Disappointing to give up the goal the way we did, right after we scored,” said Revolution coach Jay Heaps. “We didn’t have any time to regroup. It was a momentary loss of concentration and, boom, they score. That kills us.”

A droll first half forced New England to push the play forward in the second. Fagundez's goal came off a corner.

The homegrown 18-year-old has been the brightest spot in the New England attack. His ability on the ball has steadily increased and the team’s recent attacking mentality centers around his creativity.

“I think you are seeing him become a more complete player, [more] two-way,” said Heaps. “I think the goals are going to come because of how he was creating.”

However, Sam equalized a minute after Fagundez scored, knotting the score at 1-1.

“I really couldn't tell you what happened,” said Fagundez. “I think we just turned off for a second when we should have been turned on right there. So, next time we have to keep turned on and that won't happen.”

Despite the impressive play of Fagundez as of late, New England has only earned one point in its current two game homestand.

"It’s one point from two at home, which we all know isn’t what we were shooting for,” said Chris Tierney. “You just got to put it behind you in this league. The next game comes quickly. We’ll obviously look over what we’ve done well and what we haven’t and make the necessary adjustments and look to take three on the road next week.”
