The New England Revolution edged closer to the thick of the playoff spots with a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at Gillette Stadium.
Saer Sene opened the scoring with a goal for New England in the 13th minute, taking Lee Nguyen's pass with space to turn and shooting powerfully from outside the box.
Nguyen was again involved as New England sealed the win with a goal in the 78th minute. Dimitry Imbongo was the scorer, crashing in to tap home Nguyen's cross from close range.
The win puts New England in the fifth and final playoff berth in the East, although Houston could re-take that spot with a good result against Philadelphia.
