New England Patriots Injury Report: Rob Ninkovich Hurts Foot

The Latest Injury

Yahoo Contributor Network
COMMENTARY | The New England Patriots have dealt with plenty of injury problems this season, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. It appears as if Rob Ninkovich is just the latest Patriot to join the party.

The Patriots blew out the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, a great sign heading into a bye week. In the process, however, Rob Ninkovich left the game with a foot injury and did not return. Another injury to a key defensive player? Just what the Patriots need, right?

According to the Boston Globe, Patriots fans should not be terribly worried about Ninkovich's health. The Globe states that he was seen jogging around and giving his teammates a thumbs-up. Ninkovich did not return to the game, but this very well may have been because there wasn't much doubt that the Patriots had the game in the bag.

It's good news that Ninkovich is seemingly fine, but Patriots fans had to be worried when they saw him leave the game. They've already lost stars Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo for the season to injury. Aqib Talib, who played as well as any cornerback in the league early in the year, hasn't been playing in recent weeks. This would have been another devastating blow to a defense that has been surprisingly good for most of the season.

Ninkovich has earned a reputation as a very opportunistic player. He always seems to make a big play when the Patriots need it, and he's always around the ball. Maybe he's a little lucky, maybe he's a ball hawk. Either way, the Patriots need him on the field.

You can exhale, Patriots fans. Ninkovich seems to be just fine, and he has a bye week of rest if he needs it.
