Earnhardt Ganassi Racing's Gear Heads Golfing to Wreck Cancer event is planned for Oct. 25 at the Mallard Head Golf Course in Mooresville, North Carolina. The team is raising money for two crew members who are battling pancreatic cancer. Monty Grice and Sammy Gonzalez were diagnosed this year, and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing hopes to help them pay for treatments with the donations.
Monty Grice and Sammy Gonzalez Need Support
Monty Grice, who is a fabricator for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, has a recurrent form of pancreatic cancer. Grice is receiving help at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia, but it is a difficult battle with a high financial cost. Monty Grice and his family have a fundraiser that allows for donations on GiveForward.com that has only raised $905.
Sammy Gonzalez is a road crewman for Jamie McMurray's team, and the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer shocked his family in Aug. 2012. Gonzalez, who has been forced to stop working, is also receiving care at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia. A fundraiser on GiveForward.com helped the family raise $7045, but the treatments are expensive, so Gonzalez needs ongoing support.
Gear Heads Golfing to Wreck Cancer
Earnhardt Ganassi Racing hopes that the Gear Heads Golfing to Wreck Cancer tournament will raise a record amount of donations for both Monty Grice and Sammy Gonzalez. A crew chief, shock specialist and tire specialist from Richard Childress Racing will participate in the golf tournament, and the event will have support from other teams. However, golf will not be the only focus of the event, and many items will be awarded in a raffle.
Spots are no longer available in the Gear Heads Golfing to Wreck Cancer tournament, but donations are still welcome. The team has created an online form available on the Facebook page for the event that can be used. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing has been successful in acquiring great items for the raffle that include signed baseballs, signed footballs and authentic jerseys. The hope is that Gear Heads Golfing to Wreck Cancer can make a significant impact on the treatment bills for Monty Grice and Sammy Gonzalez while raising awareness about pancreatic cancer.
