Early waiver wire adds for Week 6: Catching Sammie Coates

Heading into Week 6, fantasy guru Liz Loza has three players to consider adding on the waiver wire.

Sammie Coates tops the list after hauling in six passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 11 targets. There’s more to like here than just the numbers. He has great athletic upside and is attached to a prolific offense. With Eli Rogers hampered by a toe injury, Coates should continue to see plenty of targets as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ third option in the passing game behind Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell.

The one question with Coates is his hands. His monster game against the New York Jets could have been even better if he didn’t drop another potential TD. He has a favorable matchup against the Miami Dolphins up next in Week 6.

Chicago Bears receiver Cameron Meredith had a career day against the Indianapolis Colts. He caught nine balls for 130 yards and a touchdown. While a late fumble proved costly, Meredith has established chemistry with quarterback Brian Hoyer. With it looking like Hoyer might not surrender the starting QB job when Jay Cutler is healthy, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound Meredith could be worth an add. Chicago’s receiving corps is banged up and a generous Jacksonville Jaguars defense is on the docket for Week 6.

The San Francisco 49ers’ offense isn’t pretty, but receiver Jeremy Kerley has scored in consecutive weeks. He has established himself as the team’s top receiver and has an obvious target trajectory with Blaine Gabbert needing to trust someone. Kerley has become everything Bruce Ellington was expected to be before landing on IR.
