What's buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Earlier decision expected on Packers QB Rodgers

The SportsXchange

Although the Green Bay Packers had no update on quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Monday, coach Mike McCarthy said on the Packers' website that they plan to announce a decision on his status earlier than they did in past weeks.

The past two weeks, the Packers waited until Friday to announce that Matt Flynn would be the starting quarterback.

McCarthy suggested that announcement will come earlier in the week this time.

"Aaron Rodgers? A lot of conversation going on. Hopefully, we can get the question answered sooner than later," McCarthy said on Monday on the team website. "Aaron wants to play. He fully accepts and understands everything that is going on with his injury. This is clearly a decision for Ted Thompson and I. I think it's important for us to make a quicker decision."

Rodgers has not played since suffering a broken collarbone on Nov. 4.

McCarthy had no update on the thumb injury that forced linebacker Clay Matthews out of Sunday's game.

"His injury evaluation is still going on. I don't have anything to report on Clay. The training staff didn't feel very good about Clay," McCarthy said.

The Packers are scheduled to practice Tuesday and take Christmas Day off.
