The Philadelphia Eagles' difficulties at wide receiver continued Tuesday when Arrelious Benn suffered a torn ACL for the second time in three years, the team announced.
The Eagles already had lost receiver Jeremy Maclin to a torn ACL and were dealing with the stir caused by the use of a racial slur by Riley Cooper, who returned to practice on Tuesday after a short hiatus.
Benn was hoping to vie for playing time before the injury to his left knee. But he was hurt through much of training camp before the lastest setback. He tore the ligament in the same knee in 2010.
The Eagles acquired Benn in a trade with Tampa Bay after he played in eight games last season and had four receptions for 26 yards with the Buccaneers. He was competing for a spot with the Eagles behind DeSean Jackson, Cooper, Jason Avant and undrafted rookie Russell Shepard.
