Yahoo Sports Minute:

Eagles will take a look at offensive lineman Chris Williams

National Football Post

The Philadelphia Eagles will take a look at Chris Williams, the former first-round draft pick that was released by the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.

Williams, who has not started this season and was replaced by Jonathan Scott as the Bears’ swing tackle, could be added to the mix by the Eagles, who have been dealing with issues and injuries on the offensive line since left tackle Jason Peters went down in the spring with a torn Achilles tendon.

Drafted 14th overall in 2008, Williams was supposed to be the left tackle for years to come for the Bears. Of his 38 career starts, only seven came at left tackle. He never really fit in for offensive line coach turned coordinator Mike Tice.

Now, I will get an opportunity to go play somewhere, and I’m excited about that,” Williams said on Tuesday shortly after collecting his belongings at Halas Hall. “The Bears are a good team, they will do well and I will miss the guys. It sucks being released and that type of thing. But sitting on the bench here for the whole year wasn’t going to help me in free agency. Now, I’ll get a chance somewhere else.”

The Bears filled Williams’ roster spot with another 2008 draft classmate: cornerback Zack Bowman, who had departed via free agency after last season. He is expected to help on special teams.
