The Dallas Cowboys got a look at their two-time Pro Bowl punter on Tuesday in a workout and then he came to terms on a deal with their NFC East rival.Brad Maynard, Jason Baker and Chris Bryan. Apparently, McBriar performed best because he’s the man getting the shot.
The key for McBriar is he is healthy now. He suffered from a condition known as drop foot in his left leg last season. In January, he underwent surgery to remove a cyst from below his left knee. It affected his performance in 2011 when his net average was only 36.7 yards. His net average over the course of his career in Dallas is 40.4 yards. His gross average of 45.3 ranks fourth in NFL history.
Henry had a net average of 36.9 last season and was inconsistent but did flash a strong leg. With McBriar in good shape this sets up to be a battle to watch.
In full disclosure, McBriar's agent is Jack Bechta, a founding partner of the National Football Post.
