Drew Brees and his wife help Air Force veteran get a service dog

In addition to being one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints has done great charity work as well.

His latest project is pretty cool. Brees learned about K9s for Warriors through Saints coach Sean Payton’s charity event and he and his wife Brittany decided to join, according to ESPN.com. K9s for Warriors pairs service dogs with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post 9/11, according to its site.

So thanks in part to the Saints quarterback and his wife, U.S. Air Force veteran April Sandlin now has a new service dog, a German shepherd mix named “Brees.”

Sandlin suffers from PTSD and ESPN.com’s story said she went through 120 hours of training with the dog over 21 days.

“I can feel a difference in my life,” Sandlin said in a statement to ESPN.com. “I am very thankful for K9s For Warriors and that Drew Brees was so kind to sponsor my dog. Many things in combat cannot be unseen or unheard. I can’t forget those things, but my dog helps me focus on something different — our bond.”
