Back home after a winless four-game road trip, the Atlanta Dream build a big early lead and cruised to a 74-65 WNBA victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.

Angel McCoughtry collected a game-high 22 points for the Dream (11-5). Atlanta led 21-11 after one quarter, 40-20 at halftime and 54-40 after three quarters.

Connecticut outscored the hosts 25-20 in the final 10 minutes and trimmed the lead to 71-65 with 18 seconds left in regulation before McCoughtry hit three free throws in the final 17.3 seconds.

The Sun (4-12) lost its third game in a row.

Kalana Greene and Tina Charles each scored 14 points for Connecticut, losers of five of six and nine of 11. Charles also had a game-high 16 rebounds.

Atlanta had five players score in double figures, including Alex Bentley (17 points), Erika de Souza (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Jasmine Thomas (10 points).

The Dream was among six teams in WNBA history to open a season with a 10-1 record, but it then lost four July games before Wednesday's victory.

Connecticut hosts the Indiana Fever on Thursday, while Atlanta travels to Phoenix to play the Mercury on Saturday.
