"Dr. Phil" will air Tuiasosopo interview Thursday and Friday

The SportsXchange

Ronaiah Tuiasosopo's side of the Manti Te'o hoax will be heard later this week.

The "Dr. Phil" show will air an interview with Tuiasosopo in two parts, Thursday and Friday, USA Today Sports reported. Tuiasosopo spoke with Dr. Phil McGraw last week.

Tuiasosopo reportedly created a false personality that Te'o, a Notre Dame linebacker, interacted with by phone and online. News of the alleged girlfriend's death made national news last fall, but Te'o eventually learned that "Lennay Kekua" never existed.

In other news related to the hoax, Diane O'Meara of Long Beach, Calif., detailed to the Los Angeles Times how Tuiasosopo convinced her to send photos that he allegedly relayed to Te'o, claiming they were Kekua.

O'Meara, a high school classmate of Tuiasosopo, said Tuiasosopo told her his cousin was undergoing brain surgery. He said the cousin saw a picture of O'Meara and thought she was pretty, and he asked if she'd send more pictures to help cheer him up.

"I never thought of him as someone to lie like that," O'Meara told the Times. "I almost felt guilty, because he kept persisting, kept asking, kept elaborating on the story. ...

"My world flipped 360. To wrap your head around something like that -- not only has your identity been taken, but it's been taken into this false relationship with this person that is well-known in the media. ... This series of events was mind-boggling."
