Down two starters, Padres' rotation needs help already
The San Diego Padres are reorganizing their rotation after losing two starting pitchers -- right-handers Tim Stauffer and Dustin Moseley -- in the span of a week.
While Stauffer began playing catch Tuesday, the news on the 30-year-old Moseley was discouraging.
An MRI taken Monday showed more than fraying in Moseley's labrum and rotator cuff.
"Right now, this doesn't look like something that is going to take care of itself," manager Bud Black said. "The results that came back from the MRI showed some extensive damage to the shoulder. He's going to be shut down for some time. It will take him well past the 15 days."
In fact, a Padres official said surgery is a possibility, although Moseley said he wants to give it some time.
Meantime, right-hander Anthony Bass will come out of the bullpen to start Thursday night's finale of the three-game series against Arizona. And right-hander Joe Wieland likely will be recalled from Triple-A Tucson to start Saturday night's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
