Stony Brook took a 44-33 advantage into halftime, and stretched its lead to as many as 18, 55-37, on Marcus Rouse's jump shot with 15:57 remaining.
Joyner finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Seawolves won the battle of the boards 38-28. Anthony Jackson chipped in 11 points for Stony Brook, which won its fifth straight overall and ninth straight at home.
Gerardo Suero, the nation's fourth leading scorer with 22.1 points per game coming in, scored 28 to lead the Great Danes (10-7, 2-1).
