Dose: Wrath of Enroth

Michael Finewax says that Jhonas Enroth has been red-hot of late and some lucky owners who picked him up three weeks ago are reaping the benefits

With 10 games to cover, it makes sense to polish off my weekly Dose posts by jumping right in. Don’t forget to read the Saturday edition by Michael Finewax and the Sunday column via Jimmy Hascup, either.

BLACKHAWKS 3, BRUINS 2

-- Dennis Seidenberg may get a call from the NHL for a hit that injured Jonathan Toews. It's difficult to say how serious the issue is for Toews, who was unable to return to the game.

-- Zdeno Chara logged 24:11 of ice time in his return to action, producing four PIM, one SOG and two hits, but no points.

-- With 32 out of 34 saves, Scott Darling keeps chugging along, improving his record to 5-1-0. It doesn't hurt that his last name is so pun-friendly, by the way.

-- Kris Versteeg continues his remarkable redemption. With an assist last night, he has 23 points in 23 games. I cannot think of many players who have vacillated from irrelevant to quite good and back and forth quite as oddly as Versteeg has since he began ping-ponging around the NHL (until he finally returned to Chicago).

Anyway, it is tough to say why you would balk at adding him if you're hurting for a winger.

SABRES 4, FLAMES 3

-- Seriously, Jhonas Enroth is playing obscenely well. Calgary easily ran away with the shot advantage 45-19, yet Enroth has now won five of his last six games and seven of nine. A good chunk of those appearances included hit-shot volumes. My doubts about him are related to the team around him as much as anything else; there is no denying that he is red-hot right now.

Aside: Does Enroth look a BIT like Tom Green or is that just me?

-- Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis seem like they're generating some chemistry lately. This could be a situation to watch.

-- The All-Star stuff is goofy, yet the Sabres must be ecstatic about the development of Zemgus Girgensons. He has 16 points in 29 games, and while he's riding luck (18 percent) it seems like he can hold his own so far.

-- Jiri Hudler continues to quietly put up nice numbers, with 27 points in 29 games thanks to Thursday's helper. His shooting percentage is even higher at 20.8, however.

(Though one must mention that his career shooting percentage is pretty high at 14.6.)

KINGS 5, SENATORS 3

-- Nearly matching the Kings in shots on goal (36-35 for Los Angeles) is a decent effort for Ottawa, even if it doesn't prove anything one way or the other regarding Paul MacLean. As far as that goes, there usually are multiple culprits when a team sputters out, so expecting a big jump (beyond the usual "Uh oh, coach got fired, better try harder" bump that fizzles out) is unrealistic.

-- Hey, Bobby Ryan is getting it together, though. He has a goal and four assists during a three-game point streak.

-- Tanner Pearson's offense is scattered and quite goal-heavy. He isn't really doing enough to merit a spot on your roster, yet he's a nice enough supporting cast member for Los Angeles.

-- Jake Muzzin only boasts one fewer point than Drew Doughty this season, and he has played in six fewer games. Nice on Muzzin, although that also captures some of what makes Doughty fairly disappointing in fantasy.

PREDATORS 5, COYOTES 1

-- Strong game from James Neal: he scored a goal and an assist and generally looked dangerous all night. Oddly enough, one of his better outputs was relatively weak peripherally speaking.

-- So much for Filip Forsberg slowing down just a bit. He now has two goals and four assists in four games. His numbers are just pretty across the board.

/Imagines Capitals fans weeping a little.

-- Strong work from Keith Yandle, even if it is diminished by a -3 rating. Still, an assist and six SOG should help many causes. He ranks high on the small list of positive things for this team.

-- Mike Smith doesn't get enough hype for "worst contract" consideration, at least if you ponder how crucial every dollar is for a team like the Arizona Coyotes.

BLUES 6, ISLANDERS 3

-- You know how tempting it is to make jokes like "So, THIS is why Jaroslav Halak did not want to face the Blues?" Spoiler: quite tempting.

-- This is the kind of game we want from Kyle Okposo. It isn't just about the goal and assist, either, as he fired five SOG.

-- Modest work so far from Lubomir Visnovsky: one goal, six assists for seven points in 19 GP. A little disappointing considering the potential.

-- We all knew Kevin "Kirk" Shattenkirk was good, but 24 points in 29 games? Wow. He ranks as one of the best blueline bargains in fantasy.

-- Alexander Steen has been showing signs of making a bigger splash for a while now. My favorite stat is that he had six SOG in three straight games. (Awaits a very small stream of "Mark of the Beast" jokes.)

More recaps after the jump.

BLUE JACKETS 3, CAPITALS 2 (OT)

-- John Carlson is quietly putting together quite the start, himself. He is on a three-game assist streak, giving him 21 points in 28 games.

-- Ryan Johansen is just a hair shy of a point-per-game (27 in 28 contests). Does not seem like he dealt with much/any rust.

-- Hard to argue with what Nick Foligno is doing right now, honestly.

-- Matt Niskanen has been underwhelming in Washington, managing just 12 points in 28 games. It wasn't exactly hard to see a big drop-off coming from last season's breakthrough, yet there's a chance he could still help Washington.

-- Mike Green was quite in his return, although he did fire three SOG in about 18 minutes of work.

FLYERS 4, DEVILS 1

-- It's cool that Scott Gomez has three assists in as many games and seems to at least be making an argument that he might still be an NHL-caliber forward, but please do not get too excited about this.

-- I doubt many have kept Damon Severson around, and while he is a promising 20-year-old player, I totally get dropping him many moons ago. He does have an assist in two straight games and more than two SOG per contest, so there is still some promise there.

-- Sean Couturier now has a five-game point streak (two goals, four assists) going. Interesting. At 22, could he be jumping a level offensively?

-- Every time I want to feel good about a modest Ray Emery achievement, I remember that regrettable fight against Braden Holtby and that feeling mostly fades.

LIGHTNING 2, HURRICANES 1

-- You know, weather wise, I would probably pick a hurricane over some lightning. Just saying. #hardhittinganalysis

-- Nikita Kucherov scored both Tampa Bay goals, giving him 11 on the season and 25 points in 35 games. His shooting percentage should slip (15.7), and he is getting modest ice time, so I find it hard to imagine him avoiding some significant lulls. It just shows how deep the Lightning roster is, as I'm not sure how badly it will hurt to lose Ondrej Palat to a lower-body issue.

-- Again, I quite like Justin Faulk, if you can stomach the plus/minus risks.

-- Andrej Sekera is a useful defenseman, but that's not translating to fantasy like it did last season (11 goals, 44 points in 2013-14).

AVALANCHE 4, JETS 3 (SO)

-- Mark Scheifele had a big night (one goal, two assists), yet he has failed to score a point in seven out of the last nine games.

-- It is really unfair to wonder if Ondrej Pavelec is starting to slip after he allowed seven goals in two games that went beyond regulation, yet many of us are prepared to be unfair.

-- Matt Duchene has one more point (20) than Alex Tanguay (19), and he's played in 29 to Tanguay's 27 games in 2014-15. Kudos for Tanguay for hanging in there, but that's disappointing from Duchene.

-- At some point, the "Jarome Iginla slow start" will morph into him just not really having "it" any longer. I wonder when we'll reach that moment ...

SHARKS 2, WILD 1

-- Brent Burns continues to be one of the most useful fantasy defensemen/rovers available, as he scored his ninth goal of the season on Thursday. Most importantly, he's a man who is brave enough to eat pizza while conducting postgame interviews.

Gotta admit, the dude is kind of my hero, which is weird since I am about a year older than he is.

-- Remember when it looked like Joe Thornton might start to score goals more often? That freak trend seems to have cooled, as his tally came on Nov. 16. He is still providing pretty passes, though, as his four assists in two games attest.

-- Marco Scandella received a two-game suspension for his hit on Brock Nelson. Odd month for him, as he got a nice new deal but in trouble with the league on two occasions.

-- Oh boy, another start for Alex Stalock, who continues to put up nice numbers. The Sharks cannot afford to play salary favorites, and with Antti Niemi on an expiring deal, the competition may very well be wide open.
