Dose: Vaunted Voracek

Let's recap the last four games before the 2016 All-Star NHL Game, shall we?

Good morning/early afternoon, everyone. Monday’s Dose comes to you from a slightly balmy hotel room in San Antonio, where your hapless leader has a bit of a headache.

BLACKHAWKS 4, MAPLE LEAFS 0

-- Keep an eye out for Antti Raanta to possibly get a few extra reps here and there. He's now won five straight games, including last night's 31-save shutout. His 2014-15 numbers are pretty ludicrous: 6-2-0 with a fantastic .945 save percentage. If Corey Crawford's feeling even a little banged up, why not see how much their 25-year-old backup is really capable of?

-- It looks like Brad Richards is nursing a minor upper-body injury, which is pushing Kris Versteeg to center with Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane on his wings. That ended up being a happy accident on Sunday night, as Kane had a goal and two assists, Sharp piled up three helpers and Versteeg fired home his ninth goal of the season.

-- Solid season so far for Brent Seabrook; he collected two assists to give him 20 points, nine PPP, 74 SOG and 52 hits in 2014-15.

-- At least no one took too much of the plus/minus brunt for Toronto, as Mike Santorelli was the only with a plus/minus worse than -1 (he was -2).

-- Joffrey Lupul has been a little streaky this season. In the last seven games, he has two goals and one assist. At the moment he reads as borderline in normal pools.

-- Some rough outings for James Reimer and Jonathan Bernier. Looking at the Leafs' schedule, I must again note that it looks to be a bumpy ride through Feb. 6.

FLYERS 4, JETS 3 (OT)

-- This game was an awfully interesting example of clashing contextual situations. On one hand, you had the Philadelphia Flyers closing off a back-to-back set (in which Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux ended up being resoundingly dominant). On the other hand, the Winnipeg Jets are dealing with a slew of injuries to their blueline, making them pretty vulnerable ... at least on paper. Add in Steve Mason's murky injury situation and it's an odd situation for FanDuel types and day-to-day fantasy decision makers in general.

-- Rob "Led" Zepp ended up winning his first career start as a 33-year-old minor league journeyman, stopping 25 out of 28 shots.

-- Dustin Byfuglien remains a multi-purpose gem: one goal, two SOG, five hits and seven blocked shots in 26:53 of ice time last night. Winnipeg's overall situation makes me wonder if minuses like last night's -2 mark might be a regular thing for at least a little bit.

-- Ondrej Pavelec has lost three of his last four games, although Winnipeg earned at least a standings point in his last six starts. The bar might be low, but Pavelec remains better than expected. Maybe even a lot depending upon the person you ask.

-- Mark Scheifele is on quite the run. He has five points (two goals, three assists) in his last three games. He also has eight points in his last give. Nice.

AVALANCHE 2, RED WINGS 1 (SO)

-- Whatever Colorado needs to do to keep Calvin Pickard around, they should make it happen. Instead of cratering with Semyon Varlamov on the mend, the Avs have instead gone 3-0-2 in Pickard's last five starts, and he's kept them in some games in which the shot disparity was pretty lopsided against the Avalanche. Overall, he's 6-5-2 with a fabulous .939 save percentage.

-- Pavel Datsyuk generated seven SOG on Sunday and scored a power-play goal to give him 13 tallies and 24 points in 23 games. Both of last night's goals came on the power play, actually.

-- Nathan MacKinnon update: five goals, 20 points, -10 rating and 99 SOG in 33 games. The best news is that things should go up, as he's averaging exactly three SOG per game and his 5.1 shooting percentage points to better luck in the future.

-- Few six-game losing streaks are as "respectable" as the Red Wings' has been. Still, coming so close has to sting.

STARS 6, OILERS 5 (SO)

-- Has Edmonton actually managed to get worse? it's kind of tough to argue too passionately against such a thought when you ponder 18 losses in 19 games and a blown three-goal lead late in the game.

-- Ales Hemsky collected two assists against his former team, but with just eight on the season, it might be a little early to get too excited about the brittle winger. He's talented enough that he's worth watching, though.

-- Tyler Seguin has more goals (25) than Taylor Hall has points (21) in 2014-15. A lot of contextual circumstances make the difference between the two forwards' play more pronounced, but that's a pretty bewildering stat.

-- What do the Oilers have to lose in experimenting with alternate options in net? Maybe Ben Scrivens needs a mental health break.

-- I'm among the people who weren't that excited about the situation for Kari Lehtonen, but I cannot say that I expected anything this bad for him.

BRUINS 4, SABRES 3 (OT)

-- I firmly believe that Buffalo is the worst team in the NHL. The Sabres should be a team that your fantasy players get a chance to delightfully exploit.

-- Dougie Hamilton broke a five-game scoring drought with two goals and one assist in 25:58 of TOI. He also generated an impressive six SOG.

-- Does Milan Lucic get much heat in Boston? He probably should with just 16 points in 34 games. The worst part is that it isn't just bad puck luck, as he's connected on 11.1 percent of his puny 54 SOG.

-- Tuukka Rask broke a four-game losing streak by stopping 25 shots for his 13th win of the season. He only has two wins in December.

RANGERS 1, HURRICANES 0

-- Anton Khudobin's nightmare season continues as he slipped to 0-8-2. On the bright side, he kept Carolina in there with 30 out of 31 saves and raised his save percentage to .900 on the season. Small victories.

-- Ryan McDonagh's goal gives him 10 points in 20 games. If nothing else, I generally like his value in FanDuel.

-- Rick Nash hasn't scored in his last two games, but I wouldn't be too worried about the 30-year-old power forward, as he has generated 10 SOG in the past two contests. What a monster year from a guy who provided a little concern about a decline before 2014-15 kicked into gear.

-- Mats Zuccarello's been very effective lately, as he has two goals and four assists for six points in his last six games.

-- Why not give Cam Talbot more opportunities, even in just the short term? He now has a ridiculous three shutouts in his last three appearances, even if he only needed to stop 18 shots against Carolina.

-- Derek Stepan's been nice and steady with 18 points in 19 games and five in his last five. While his peripherals are nothing to get excited about, I'd ponder adding him, as he's only 55 percent owned as of this writing.
