Dose: Mumps and Bruises

I don’t want to say that this mumps outbreak is getting a little out of hand, but let me ask for a friend: do surgical masks come in argyle?

Anyway, all joking aside, fantasy owners probably aren’t very amused by this rather ridiculous outbreak. It’s frustrating when NHL teams seem needlessly opaque about these situations, too, although I think we can all agree that they’re probably just downright confounded by a truly rare and odd situation.

My advice is as simple as it is unsatisfying: stay on top of updates via Rotoworld’s NHL news page and the injuries section, especially when it gets close to game time. Sometimes such ailments lead to last-minute scratches that you can only do so much about, but ultimately you can only influence what’s actually in your realm of control.

Bummer, right?

Just do the best you can and try not to get too frustrated with the ebbs and flows of an 82-game season … and of course, read as many Rotoworld pieces as you can.

STARS 2, CANUCKS 0

-- At this point, Antoine Roussel is basically a fantasy-relevance-seeking missile. The guy scored an empty-net goal, fired four SOG and delivered two hits in a game that didn't provide much for fantasy owners overall. He now has two goals and two assists in the last three games. The only downside (lately) is that he hasn't generated PIM in his last five contests.

-- Nope, no reason to be all that excited about Colton Sceviour.

-- Four more PIM for Derek Dorsett last night, which pushes him to a 70 PIM total in 29 games.

-- Kari Lehtonen got the 27-save shutout and now has wins in three of four games.

-- Eddie Lack has a middling 2-4-2 record, yet his .916 save percentage indicates that he's getting none of the luck that's gone Ryan Miller's way.

BRUINS 3, WILD 2 (OT)

-- Carl Soderberg is pretty good (six goals, 15 assists for 21 points) but doesn't quite do enough (only 67 SOG and eight PIM) to be particularly exciting.

-- I wouldn't be shocked if the goals start coming more regularly for Patrice Bergeron. Only six of his 88 SOG have gone in, which translates to a paltry 6.8 shooting percentage.

-- Jason Pominville is another guy who should get more bounces his way soon. Just 6.6 percent of his 106 SOG have gone in, but expect him to do better than seven goals in his next 30 games.

-- Loui Eriksson scored two points last night and has four in five contests. Not outstanding, yet Boston has to hope that he can flirt with this pace going forward.

-- Zdeno Chara's main fantasy value (beyond impressive TOI) has been his versatility, but he hasn't been too great for fantasy owners this season, with just five points and 14 PIM in 13 games.

-- He's only 4-4-0, but with a .925 save percentage, Niklas Svedberg could be worth eyeing if you're the type to add a netminder for a stray Sunday.

SENATORS 2, DEVILS 0

-- Nice work by Kyle Turris lately: two goals on Wednesday to extend a point streak to four games (two tallies, three assists). He's slightly above his normal PIM rate with 22 in 31 contests in 2014-15, too.

-- Bobby Ryan generated four PIM of his own, bumping his total to just 10 on the season. That's the kind of trend that might prompt someone to drop the "power" from power forward, although that may be a little hasty right now.

-- Cory Schneider is 11-15-3 despite a respectable .916 save percentage. Joining New Jersey has been great for his bank account and good for him (now) grabbing a No. 1 gig, yet it hasn't been as much of a boon for his fantasy value as hoped (beyond sheer volume).

-- Craig Anderson is now very close to .500 as he improved to 7-8-4. His individual numbers make him an intriguing guy for contenders to target with a trade offer: .929 save percentage and three shutouts.

-- Clarke MacArthur ended a five-game scoring drought with an assist last night.
