BUFFALO 3 VANCOUVER 2

It was Rasmus Ristolainen afternoon in Buffalo as the third year defenseman scored twice including the winner with less than 17 seconds to go to give the Sabres a 3-2 win over Vancouver.

The talented blueliner was taken eighth overall in the 2013 Draft and has been a force on the Buffalo blueline as he scored eight times last season including four with the man-advantage. He has a bright future.

Jamie McGinn opened the scoring with his third of the season and Ristolainen made it 2-0 before Henrik Sedin beat Linus Ullmark on a pretty three-way passing play.

Chris Higgins tied it at two halfway through the third leaving Ristolainen to win the game late.

Ullmark stopped 35 shots for his third win of the season.

Ryan Miller made his first return to Buffalo since he was dealt in February 2014 and the Sabres did their best to make sure it was not a triumphant one.

Jack Eichel picked up his first two assists of his NHL career and now has seven points.

LOS ANGELES 4 FLORIDA 1

Jeff Carter scored once and added an assist to lead the Kings to a 4-1 win over Florida.

Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar and Milan Lucic also found the back of the net with Nick Bjugstad opening the scoring for the Panthers lone goal.

Jonathan Quick was stellar once again as he stopped 18 shots for his seventh win of the season.

Roberto Luongo saw his record fall to 3-5-2 this season as he made 31 saves.

Christian Ehrhoff was a scratch and was replaced on the Kings blueline by Derek Forbort who had an assist.

CAROLINA 3 OTTAWA 2 (Overtime)

Jordan Staal scored the overtime winner and added an assist to lead the Hurricanes to a 3-2 win over the Senators.

Jeff Skinner tied the game in the third with just four ticks on the clock remaining.

Justin Faulk opened the scoring with his fifth power play goal in as many weeks. He has scored one in each week of the season and added an assist on the winner as well.

Alex Chiasson on the power play and Chris Wideman with his first NHL goal of his career, scored for the Sens.

Cam Ward stopped 19 shots for the win while Andrew Hammond was quite busy in the Ottawa cage as he made 43 saves in taking the OT loss.

MONTREAL 4 BOSTON 2

Tomas Plekanec, David Desharnais, Lars Eller and Max Pacioretty scored for the Habs to lead Montreal to a 4-2 win over Boston.

Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk each had two assists in the victory.

Loui Eriksson, who opened the scoring, and Frank Vatrano with his first NHL goal of his career, replied for the Bruins.

Mike Condon continues to show the Montreal faithful that losing Carey Price to injury is no big deal as he stopped 29 shots to improve his record to 6-0-1.

Jonas Gustavsson lost for the first time this season as his record dropped to 3-1. He made 29 saves on 32 shots.

WASHINGTON 3 TORONTO 2 (Shootout)

Nicklas Backstrom tied the game with 1.7 seconds left in the third and Alex Ovechkin scored the lone goal in the fourth round of the shootout to lead the Capitals to a 3-2 win over Toronto.

Ovechkin scored his 483rd goal of his career as he tied Sergei Fedorov for the most goals scored by a Russian born and trained player.

Daniel Winnik opened the scoring for Toronto before he left the game in the first period with a lower body injury. He did not return.

James van Riemsdyk gave Toronto a 2-1 lead in the third with a power play goal before Backstrom tied things up.

James Reimer was terrific as he stopped 31-of-33 shots while Braden Holtb made 25 saves as well as all four in the shootout for the win.

PHILADELPHIA 3 WINNIPEG 0

Michal Neuvirth picked up his third shutout of the season to lead the Flyers to a 3-0 win over Winnipeg Saturday.

Neuvirth is 3-2-1 this season with all wins coming via the shutout.

Brayden Schenn got things started in the first with a power play goal while Wayne Simmonds (also on the pp) scored in the third before Matt Read’s empty netter sealed the win.

Ondrej Pavelec took the loss as he stopped 20-of-22 shots.

Claude Giroux assisted on a couple of goals.

Don’t be surprised if Neuvirth takes some starts away from Steve Mason with his play of late.

ST. LOUIS 4 NASHVILLE 0

Jake Allen was absolutely great in stopping all 45 shots to lead the Blues to a 4-0 win over Nashville.

Pekka Rinne gave up four goals on 28 shots for the loss. It was the second time in three games that he has given up four.

Alexander Steen scored once and added an assist while Colton Parayko and Alex Pietrangelo scored on the power play. Scottie Upshall also scored as the Blues are now 10-3-1 and only one point behind the Dallas Stars for first place in the West.

Scott Gomez had two assists.

Nikita Kucherov led all skaters with six shots on net.

MINNESOTA 1 TAMPA BAY 0

Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves as shutouts seem to be the rage in the games that started after 7:30 ET with the Wild defeating the Lightning 1-0.

Ben Bishop was stellar in the Tampa Bay cage as well but Jared Spurgeon’s goal was the only shot of 25 that beat him Saturday.

Bishop is facing a challenge in goal from Andrei Vasilevskiy and although Bishop has lost his last five games in a row, he has only given up eight goals.

CALGARY 5 PITTSBURGH 2

Johnny Gaudreau scored twice and added an assist while Sam Bennett, and Sean Monahan each had a goal and an assist to lead the Flames to a 4-2 win over Pittsburgh.

Bennett scored a gorgeous goal as he dipsy-doodled around the defense and beat Marc-Andre Fleury.

Joe Colborne opened the scoring for Calgary and Mikael Backlund has his first good fantasy game of the season with three assists.

Phil Kessel and Nick Bonino on the pp scored for the Penguins who saw Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang each go minus-three in the game.

Karri Ramo stopped 22 shots to improve his record to 3-4 while his counterpart in the Penguins cage made 26 saves on 30 shots as Marc-Andre Fleury is now 7-5.

NEW YORK RANGERS 4 ARIZONA 1

Antti Raanta came oh-so-close to a shutout as Shane Doan scored with only five seconds remaining as the Rangers defeated Arizona 4-1.

Raanta has been terrific in relief of Henrik Lundqvist as he has allowed zero goals once and only one goal in his other two games. He made 39 saves.

Mike Smith was pulled after giving up the third Rangers goal as Anders Lindback took over. Smith stopped 14 shots while Lindback gave up one goal on 13 shots.

Chris Kreider had a goal and an assist while Jesper Fast, J.T. Miller and Kevin Hayes also scored.

Keith Yandle returned to Phoenix for the first time since his trade to New York last season and had an assist and a plus-one rating with a couple of shots on goal.

ANAHEIM 1 SAN JOSE 0

Anton Khudobin stopped 31 shots as the Ducks won again, 1-0 over the San Jose Sharks.

It was the Ducks fourth straight win as they got an early goal from Corey Perry, his second of the season as Ryan Getzlaf and Patrick Maroon set him up.

Maroon looks to be the third member of the top unit and is worth picking up at this time.

Martin Jones turned aside 16 of 17 shots but alas, it was not good enough as he saw his record drop to 6-5 with a 2.06 GAA and a .924 save percentage.
