BLUES 3, JETS 2

-- So, Winnipeg is now on a six-game losing streak, while they've also dropped seven of eight. About the nicest thing you can say is "Well, at least they didn't fall 7-0 this time around" and "At least we can happily watch Bryan Little and a few other good players."

-- Nikolaj Ehlers strikes me as one of those guys you can drop for a while, keep him on your watch list, then add him back when he gets over this cold streak. He strikes me as a legit talent who's just hitting that typical lull.

Granted, your league might be too hardcore for that, but maybe that's a sign that you just need to keep rotating flavors of the month? Nothing wrong with that, if you can hit the mark more often than not.

-- Nothing spectacular this time from Jake Allen, but he got another win. Could he grab a Vezina this season?

-- Vladimir Tarasenko is basically spectacular out of habit, grabbing a goal and an assist. David Backes seems to have heated up after punching Jonathan Toews, as he now has two goals and one assist.

CANADIENS 4, CANUCKS 3 (OT)

-- Vancouver was up 3-0 in this one, but they blew it, although they at least got a standings point. That's sort of the way I see the Canucks at this point, as they're in this existential crisis where they can make the playoffs but will probably get clobbered. Is that worth it? If the ceiling is so low, how long will they stay the course?

-- Pretty tough to believe that this was merely Jacob Markstrom's second start of the season. Do the Canucks really think Ryan Miller is an elite workhorse or something? I don't know, maybe they're trying to grind out every dollar from his bloated $6 million cap hit.

-- David Desharnais already has three GWG this season, and they've all come in the last five games.

-- Tomas Fleischmann is up there with Lee Stempniak as the best PTO-turned-roster player in 2015-16. Honestly, it's not that surprising that these guys are enjoying some success.

He hit a milestone in playing his 600th game, by the way.

-- The Sedins just keep getting their points.

RED WINGS 4, SENATORS 3 (OT)

-- This has to be a heartening effort for Detroit; the Red Wings didn't just win, they also generated a 37-25 SOG advantage.

-- Grabbing a W even as Pavel Datsyuk continues to settle in has to be a nice bonus. He remains without a point through his first three games back. If I were Jeff Blashill, I'd ponder maybe giving him the occasional rest, sort of like how Anaheim spelled Teemu Selanne in his last season or two. Datsyuk isn't quite as old as Selanne was - The Magician is 37 - but he has a ton of playoff/international mileage that probably makes him a somewhat old 37.

-- Dylan Larkin cooled off a bit lately, but maybe this goal will get him going again. His stats are still quite pleasant overall: five goals and seven assists for 12 points, +12 rating, 12 PIM and two game-winners.

-- Should Ottawa turn to "The Hamburglar" a little more often? I mean, he did save their season and all.

Craig Anderson seems like he's either great or mundane, and so far it's the bland: 6-4-3 with a mediocre .911 save percentage. Why not give Andrew Hammond the ball for a while and see if he can move the needle?

-- Bobby Ryan's quietly heating up with a six-game point streak. Ottawa could be formidable if Ryan's line can support that great top Turris trio.

PANTHERS 1, LIGHTNING 0

-- Aaron Ekblad scored the game-winner with about 20 seconds remaining in regulation, really cementing the whole "Life hates the Lightning right now" theme. He now has a four-game point streak going, with three goals and one assist.

-- Don't bury the Bolts too much for this one, as Roberto Luongo needed to make 39 saves for his first shutout of 2015-16. He's now at 69 SO's and 407 wins for his career. I'd say he's HHOF material, and not just because he did an Ice Bucket Challenge in Ninja Turtles pajamas.

-- Jaromir Jagr got an assist ... of course. Jonathan Huberdeau also grabbed a helper on that Ekblad goal, giving him a five-game point streak in the process.

DUCKS 4, HURRICANES 1

-- Despite having a rifle of a shot, Ryan Getzlaf's more of a pass-first guy ... but it's still jarring that he just scored his first goal of the season, and it was merely an empty-netter. His health issues definitely give him a pass, but seven points in 14 games is troubling.

Is this a bad time to mention that Getzlaf and Corey Perry turned 30 and that's often a time when scoring forwards dip noticeably?

-- After being benched, Carl Hagelin really took over this game, scoring a goal and two assists. That's more production than the two points he managed in his first 17 games with Anaheim.

The speedy Swede isn't a star scorer, but he was a regular 30+ point guy for the Rangers. The possibility of Hagelin boosting Anaheim's depth ranked as one of the reasons people were so excited about this team - myself included - so the Quackers must hope that this is a sign of a breakthrough.

-- Noah Hanifin scored his first career goal in this one. He's averaging 17:06 TOI per night. I'm not 100 percent sure that Carolina was best served burning the first year of his ELC, but he should be a gem in the fairly near future.

This began a four-game road trip through "non-traditional markets," with a back-to-back closing off against the dangerous Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. Three of their next four games are on the road.

Their schedule really flip-flops with home and road swings, so I wouldn't be surprised if the word "inconsistent" eventually replaces "bafflingly bad" when people discuss the Ducks.

ISLANDERS 5, COYOTES 2

-- Frans Nielsen might just be Denmark's answer to Patrice Bergeron, as he's really climbed the charts scoring-wise after earning a reputation as a nice two-way center. He has four points and three goals in his last two games, including the only goal in the first period last night.

-- Things went wild in the final frame, as six of the game's seven goals happened in the last 20 minutes.

The Islanders rattled off four unanswered goals before Arizona made it more respectable, and the margin was inflated by John Tavares' empty-netter.

-- Martin Hanzal must have gotten annoyed by all the assist man jokes or something. He got his third goal of 2015-16, breaking the Isles' shutout bit.

-- Tavares had a two-goal, one-assist game while Kyle Okposo nabbed a trio of helpers. Again, I often look at things through the lens of fantasy, so grain of salt ... but I'd struggle to break those two up if I were Jack Capuano.

I'd have to cope with that funny accent Cap has first, though.

-- Jaroslav Halak broke a three-game losing streak to improve to 5-4-1. Despite that iffy record, he's been quite good, with a sparkly .927 save percentage. Halak - Thomas Greiss is an unassuming, efficient and effective duo.
