Dose: Green Re-Injures Toe

Evan Silva breaks down all of the fantasy matchups for Thursday night's Ravens-Bengals game

A. J. Green appeared to aggravate his toe injury during practice Wednesday and had to be carted off the field. He threw his shoe in disgust after suffering the injury, and let out an “audible sigh” on his way to the locker room.

Green originally suffered the toe injury against the Ravens on opening day, and was forced from the Bengals’ Week 2 matchup against the Falcons midway through the first quarter after aggravating the injury. He had played the Bengals’ last two games without incident, but now appears likely to miss multiple games.

With Marvin Jones (ankle) still sidelined, Mohamed Sanu, Dane Sanzenbacher and Brandon Tate are the Bengals’ top-three healthy receivers. With those “weapons” to work with on the outside, OC Hue Jackson will likely lean heavily on running backs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill if Green is forced to miss any time. The Bengals play the Panthers on Sunday.

In Other News…

Calvin Johnson missed practice on Wednesday with a high-ankle sprain. Johnson said he hopes to play Week 6, but admitted “some injuries require rest” and that he will need “a lot of treatment” in order to play. He will at best be a game-time decision, and could be ruled out before Sunday. Make other plans.

Knowshon Moreno (elbow) was limited in practice on Wednesday. Last week Moreno said he was still four weeks away from returning, but signs continue to point to Moreno suiting up against the Packers this weekend. If he plays Moreno would likely see an even split of the carries with Lamar Miller, who has not been asked to carry the ball more than 15 times in any game this season despite Moreno’s absence.

Jaguars OC Jedd Fisch said he does not want four running backs carrying the ball each week, and hopes to have only two primary runners. With Toby Gerhart struggling with both health and production, it is conceivable he is replaced entirely by Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson as the primary ball carries in Jacksonville. Gerhart is teetering on drop-ability, while Johnson is a great add in deeper formats.

Saints coach Sean Payton said “there’s a chance” Mark Ingram (hand) plays following the Saints’ Week 6 bye. Ingram has been out since breaking a bone at the point where his thumb and palm come together against the Browns Week 2. Khiry Robinson has played well in Ingram’s stead, but Ingram is expected to receive the bulk of the early-down work once he returns.

Reggie Bush (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. He has downplayed the ankle injury and called himself day-to-day, but it is concerning he could not get in at least a limited practice. Joique Bell (concussion) and Theo Riddick (hamstring) both returned to full practice on Wednesday.

Carson Palmer (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday. He threw for the second straight day without setback, but coach Bruce Arians said Palmer needs to get in at least one full practice in order to play against the Redskins this weekend. Drew Stanton (concussion) was also limited. Whoever starts will have a plus matchup against the struggling Washington secondary.

Adrian Peterson’s trial for child-abuse chargers is tentatively scheduled for December 1, but could be moved up to November 18 if a spot opens up on the Montgomery County Court’s docket. Peterson is hoping to get the case resolved as quickly as possible in an effort to return to the field this season. It is still unlikely Peterson plays another down this year.

The Washington Post’s Mike Jones disputed a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport claiming the Redskins' plan was to have Robert Griffin III back for the team’s Week 8 game against the Cowboys. “I was told that it’s inaccurate that the plan is for him to come back for the Cowboys game,” Jones said. “He’s making progress, but remains a ways off.” The most likely return date for RGIII is after the Redskins’ Week 10 bye.
