Dose: Burger Kleptomaniac

Friday's Dose discusses Andrew Hammond hitting a bump in the road and much, much more

Man, seven games … on a Monday night?

Well, OK then, NHL. Let’s get rolling.

Don't forget, for everything NHL, check out Rotoworld's up to the minute coverage on Player News, as well as follow@Rotoworld_HK and @cyclelikesedins on Twitter.

SENATORS 5, SHARKS 2

-- How weird is it to largely neglect a team in fantasy, leaving it in autopilot much of the season, only to grab hold of the steering wheel around playoff time? It’s sort of like taking a final exam in a class you never attended.

On the bright side, one might say the teacher’s been lenient in my most recent example, as I was able to add Andrew Hammond, Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau far too late in the game. Makes me wonder how many of my other classmates are sleeping through the test, though, if you will.

-- Mika Zibanejad is on another sudden tear. With two goals last night, he now has a four-game point streak going (two goals, three assists). I'm intrigued to see if the 21-year-old can take a bigger step forward in 2015-16, as he still has room for improvement from this year's 43 points in 70 games.

(Managing to stick with Bobby Ryan and Mike Hoffman would likely help matters, too.)

-- Joe Pavelski now has more SOG (229) in 73 games than he fired (225) in 82 contests last season. He has 35 goals this season, which isn't as many as last season's 41 (yet?), but he already tied his second-best total ever with 66 points. I doubt he gets 79 points like 2013-14, but this is still great stuff.

-- Antti Niemi's contract year is really slipping down the drain. With four losses in his last five games, he's now 28-22-7 on the season.

STARS 4, SABRES 3

-- Put on the broken record: every Buffalo game in which they don't get blown out still feels like a bit of a surprise to me.

-- Jamie Benn scored two goals and one assist to give him 70 points on the season. Injuries definitely marred some of Tyler Seguin's second campaign with Dallas, yet he's still impressive with 33 goals and 65 points in 63 contests. He's firing a lot of SOG (244), so he could very well be a regular 30-goal guy (perhaps even a fairly consistent 40-goal fellow in healthier seasons for all we know).

-- Could we see a decent rebound for Matt Moulson in 2015-16? He got sent around pretty haphazardly in 2013-14 and is almost assured to be on a better Buffalo team by default next season. Just a thought.

-- Good to see John Klingberg get back on the board with an assist. His production still feels a little bit much to me considering his low SOG (just 83 in 56 games, benefiting from serious puck luck to the tune of 10 goals on 12 percent shooting).

-- It's not a resounding turnaround, yet it seems like Ales Hemsky's turning things around a bit. Hemsky also sorta reminds me of that dude from Friday Night Lights.

FLAMES 3, AVALANCHE 2

-- Pretty hard for me to resist counting Colorado out after a loss like this, particularly with Dallas now ahead of them (though the Stars have one fewer game remaining). The West bubble race looks like it could be exciting to the end, but I don't expect it to be heavily populated.

-- Death, taxes, a goal created by at least one member of the Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Jiri Hudler line (in Monday's case, Monahan assisted on a Hudler tally).

-- Alex Tanguay's near the list of the Avalanche's most pleasant surprises in 2014-15. He hit the 20-goal mark last night, and his 47 points are the most he has generated in quite a while.

-- It's interesting that Ryan O'Reilly has been through as much haggling and game-playing (416 GP already) as he's seen since he's just 24. He's on a nice run alongside Gabriel Landeskog.

JETS 4, OILERS 1

-- In a season that's really cemented the notion that we know nothing about goalies - that we're all Jon Snows about puckstoppers - it would only make sense that Ondrej Pavelec may enjoy a nice run, wouldn't it?

Pavelec has now won five straight games, allowing five goals in that span. *shrugs*

-- Taylor Hall has an assist in both of his two games since returning from his lengthy injury absence.

-- Drew Stafford extended his point streak to an impressive six games (four goals, four assists), also giving him 14 points in 17 games with Winnipeg. He really might be the biggest winner of the trade deadline.

-- Speaking of new faces in Winnipeg, Tyler Myers really might score more points with the Jets despite playing many more games with Buffalo this season. In 16 games with Winnipeg, he has three goals and 11 points. Compare that to four goals and 13 points in 47 contests as a member of the Sabres. The puck luck seems high, although 9.7 shooting percentage isn't THAT out of line with his 8.4 career average. Maybe the real message should be to get the kid to shoot.

KINGS 3, DEVILS 1

-- Confession: I reflexively yawned just thinking of this game.

Another confession: I’m only kind of sorry for making you yawn while reading this.

Seriously, I’m yawning a ton, how about you?

-- Tyler Toffoli took advantage of not getting suspended for his hit on Alex Burrows, scoring his 21st goal of the season. It happened to be his third GWG of 2014-15, to boot. He now has 42 points in 66 games.

-- Hey, remember when Damon Severson had some of us excited? Injuries and other issues have a way of making you forget about guys like him. Anyway, he grabbed an assist on Monday, giving him four points in the 10 games he's played since returning to the Devils lineup after last playing in December.

-- Cory Schneider falls back below .500 (26-27-7), continuing quite the wasted season with his nice .927 save percentage.

BLACKHAWKS 3, HURRICANES 1

-- Should we be at all concerned that Carolina generated a 44-25 shot advantage in this one, or should we chalk it up to Chicago taking an early 2-0 lead?

-- Patrick Sharp has three two-point games since March 14 (aka the game after I dropped him in one league), also giving him six points in that five-game span. You're welcome?

-- Corey Crawford stopped 43 out of 44 shots for his 30th win of the season (he's going multiples of five with a record of 30-15-5). With a .926 save percentage, he's producing some fantastic work and maybe deserves to make a mild argument for a Vezina nomination.

(I wouldn't put him in the top three right now, yet I imagine few would even think of mentioning him at all.)

WILD 2, MAPLE LEAFS 1

-- Honestly, it's hard to say that home games are an advantage for Toronto right now. Again, it seems like this team is in total plummet mode at the moment.

-- Perhaps we'll see Thomas Vanek closer to his previous form next season? He's been a nudge or two better lately, scoring 19 points in his past 24 games thanks to his current eight-game point streak.

-- Devan Dubnyk's full-season stats are impressive, even if you don't isolate his especially insane numbers with the Wild. His overall take: 32-11-3, .929 save percentage and six shutouts. Wow.

-- If you're Jonathan Bernier, do you try to at least float the idea of a trade? Or, failing that, do you make sure to take a short-term deal with the Buds? I'm not so sure I'd want to absorb all the defeats and a significant helping of blame going forward when you may find a less agonizing starting gig elsewhere.
