Whether Giovani Dos Santos is able to join the Mexico squad ahead of the May 30 friendly against Jamaica all depends of the result of Mallorca’s game against Real Valladolid on Sunday.
If Mallorca doesn’t win, the club is doomed to relegation, meaning Dos Santos would be allowed to leave for El Tri’s camp one week before the end of the season, reports Spanish outlet El Mundo Deportivo.
However, if Mallorca picks up the three points it could go into the final round of matches in Spain with possibilities of remaining in La Liga, which would mean Dos Santos is obliged to stay.
Mallorca currently lies in last position in La Liga, five points off Real Zaragoza in 17th place.
Mexico coach Jose Manuel ‘Chepo’ de la Torre visited Spain earlier this month to try and secure an early release for El Tri’s La Liga players.
Not having Dos Santos for would be a blow for Chepo, who has faced criticism this year after five consecutive tied games and will be looking to the Nigeria game to iron out problems before the World Cup qualifiers get underway again on June 4 away against Jamaica.
