Did Donald Trump just give his most unintelligible interview yet?

Donald Trump has given what has been branded his most unintelligible interview yet.

The US president spoke to the Associated Press as he approaches his 100th day in the White House.

His critics have accused him of being the most inarticulate commander-in-chief in recent history.

And they have gathered more ammunition from the full transcript of his interview with AP.

There are 16 instances in the transcript in which a portion of Mr Trump’s answers are deemed ‘unintelligible’ – or where the audio recording of the interview is unclear.

Mr Trump has been in the Oval Office for 94 days that have been characterised by clashes with the media and failed bids to change existing US laws.

But he remains unbowed, telling AP: ‘It’s a different kind of a presidency.’

During the one-hour long interview, Mr Trump dismissed accusations that he hadn’t delivered on his election promises within 100 days.

‘It’s an artificial barrier. It’s not very meaningful,’ he said.

He suggested that the 100-day plan outlined at the end of his campaign – his ‘contract with the American voter’ – hadn’t been his idea.

Since he took over the presidency on January 20, his approval rating has dwindled around the 40% mark in most polls.

His first few months in the White House have been dogged by FBI and congressional investigations into whether his campaign co-ordinated with Russians to tilt the race in his favour.

Mr Trump spoke about his recent decision to launch missiles in Syria.

He said: ‘When it came time to, as an example, send out the 59 missiles, the Tomahawks in Syria, I’m saying to myself, “You know, this is more than just like 79 (sic) missiles.

‘This is death that’s involved because people could have been killed. This is risk that’s involved.’

He added: ‘Here, everything, pretty much everything you do in government involves heart, whereas in business most things don’t involve heart.

‘In fact, in business you’re actually better off without it.’

He said his political team in the White House does not get the credit it deserves for its work in a high-pressure setting.

‘This is a very tough environment,’ said Mr Trump. ‘Not caused necessarily by me.’
