Dolphins talk with seventh GM candidate

The SportsXchange

The Miami Dolphins interviewed a seventh candidate in their search for a general manager.

Dennis Hickey, the director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, met with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross on Friday, the Miami Herald reported.

Hickey has spent 18 years with the Buccaneers as a college scout and director of college scouting before taking over his current role. The Bucs also have an opening for a general manager, but Hickey apparently has not interviewed for the job.

The other known candidates interviewed by the Dolphins are Pittsburgh Steelers director of football administration Omar Khan, Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine, Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Jason Licht, Atlanta Falcons director of player personnel Lake Dawson, Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer and Detroit Lions senior personnel executive Brian Xanders.

The Dolphins fired general manager Jeff Ireland earlier this month after Miami finished with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
