Tim Brown:

Dodgers RHP Guerra has shoulder surgery

The SportsXchange

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Javy Guerra had shoulder surgery on his throwing arm Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The 25-minute operation was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache to clean up bursitis in the AC joint. The teams said Guerra should start throwing again in six weeks and be ready by spring training.

Guerra started the season as the closer but lost the job to Kenley Jansen in May and ultimately ended up in the minors for part of the season. He also had an oblique injury and midseason knee surgery which slowed him. He only pitched in one game after Aug. 18.

The 27-year-old finished the season with a 2.60 earned-run average and eight saves.

Guerra is not guaranteed to make the club as it has a crowded bullpen, including Ronald Belisario, Jansen and Brandon League.
