PHOENIX -- Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu gave up three runs, struck out a career-high nine and had his first three major league hits in a 7-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Saturday night.
Ryu gave up six hits in six-plus innings, and his singles in the fifth and sixth innings helped the Dodgers (7-4) score five runs to break a 1-1 tie.
Adrian Gonzalez also had three hits, including a home run in the fourth inning and a run-scoring single to cap a three-run sixth for a 6-1 lead. Matt Kemp had a two-run single in the sixth.
Eric Hinske and Eric Chavez had pinch-hit, RBI-singles to make it 6-3 in the seventh, when the D-backs (7-4) scored two runs off Ryu and reliever Ronald Belisario. Ryu was lifted after giving up two singles to open the inning.
Martin Prado homered and Aaron Hill drove in a run with a pinch-double to close to 6-5 in the eighth before Ramon Hernandez doubled in a run in the ninth.
Brandon League pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save.
Ryu, who signed a six-year, $36 million contract over the winter, got his first major league hit when he doubled to the right field wall in the third inning.
Gonzalez broke a scoreless tie with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning. He was 2-for-16 against Kennedy entering the game before getting hits in his first two at-bats Saturday.
Paul Goldschmidt doubled off the center field wall and Miguel Montero walked with one out in the D-backs' fourth before Ryu got out of the inning with a fly ball and a strikeout.
Ryu singled in the fifth and was forced out at second before Skip Schumaker doubled in Carl Crawford for a 2-0 lead. After Gonzalez was intentionally walked, Andre Ethier singled in Schumaker to make it 3-0.
Cliff Pennington singled, went to second on a wild pitch, took third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on A.J. Pollock's groundout to break Ryu's shutout in the fifth.
NOTES: Left-hander Chris Capuano will start for the Dodgers on Tuesday against San Diego, manager Don Mattingly said. Capuano, who threw a bullpen Saturday, will fill Zack Greinke's spot in the rotation. Capuano struck out two in 1 2/3 innings in relief of Greinke (fractured clavicle) was forced out of Thursday's game when he hit by Padres' left field Carlos Quentin. Capuano, on the Dodgers' approach to the final 15 games against the Padres this year: "Winning ball games is the biggest revenge you can get. Especially trying to play the Padres tough and beating them as much as we can is the best thing we can do," he said. ... The D-backs placed outfielder Jason Kubel (left quadriceps) on the disabled list Saturday after an MRI earlier in the day, Kubel first felt the injury when he scored from second base on a passed ball in Milwaukee on April 5 and aggravated it running the bases Friday. ... Outfielder Cody Ross, an offseason free agent acquisition, was activated from the disabled list to take Kubel's place. Ross (left calf) suffered his injury the first week of March. He was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in his first (and only) rehabilitation game at Class AAA Reno on Friday. ... Dodgers catcher Ramon Hernandez made his first start after being acquired from Colorado on April 6.
