Dodgers 2B Ellis strains quad

The SportsXchange

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis strained his right quad while running out a ground ball in the fifth inning of Friday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ellis was scheduled to have an MRI Saturday to determine the severity of the injury, according to MLB.com.

Ellis, 35, left the game after the play and was replaced by Nick Punto in the sixth inning.

Manager Don Mattingly intimated that Ellis could be headed to the disabled list.

"Usually guys don't come out of the game like that and it not be something," he said. "I want to be optimistic, but usually you see a guy come out and kind of pull up like that, it's usually something that's not going to be a day or two."

Ellis is batting .342 with two home runs, two doubles and 11 RBI.
