Scott Dixon led a front-row sweep for Target Chip Ganassi Racing on Friday in qualifying for the Iowa Corn Indy 300 in Newton, Iowa.

Dixon set a two-lap qualifying record of 186.256 mph at Iowa Speedway to win the pole for Saturday night's race, breaking the previous mark of 180.375 mph by Takuma Sato since 2011.

Teammate Tony Kanaan was the second fastest at 185.891 mph on the 0.894-mile oval. Kanaan won the race in 2010.

Helio Castroneves, tied with Team Penske teammate Will Power for the IndyCar series points lead, set a one-lap track record of 186.809 mph on his second lap and posted a two-lap average of 185.685 mph to qualify third. Ryan Briscoe was fourth at 185.339 mph. Power will start ninth.

Dixon became the ninth different driver to win a pole this year. It was the 21st of his IndyCar career. His best previous qualifying effort this season was seventh at Texas Motor Speedway.

"It's definitely a good thing to see the Ganassi cars at the top," said Dixon, the 2013 series champion. "We had been stuck in sort of a rut and it had been a while since my last pole (Baltimore in August 2013). We're winless so we have a bit of work to do. It definitely will be a tough one; the competition is extremely good."
