Dirk Nowitzki: Swollen Knee For Second Straight Training Camp
Update: Nowitzki (knee) is dealing with a sore and swollen right knee for the second straight training camp, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Recommendation: Nowitzki, who sat out Tuesday's exhibition, said it took him nearly two months to get over the swollen knee after last season's shortened training camp. "We'll see how it responds," Nowitzki said. "But the longer we wait, obviously the worse it is. If we have to do something, it'd be better to do it quick." At some point, it appears Nowitzki will need arthroscopic surgery, a minor procedure that would only require a few weeks of recovery. He views surgery as a last resort at the moment and should open the season in the starting lineup, but it's worth noting that he averaged 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds while dealing with knee soreness during the season's first full month in 2011-12, numbers significantly below career norms. Don't be surprised if Nowitzki has a slow start out of the gate should he decide to forego arthroscopic surgery.
