Dillard, Tennessee Tech hold off UMKC 68-62

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jud Dillard scored 20 points and Tennessee Tech held off Missouri-Kansas City 68-62 Saturday night in a nonconference game.

The Golden Eagles (11-16) led by nine in the second half, but the Kangaroos kept bouncing back to tie it five times.

Knotted at 58-58 with 3:48 left, Tennessee Tech closed the game on a 10-4 run, sparked by five straight points by Jeremiah Samarrippas.

Dennis Ogbe added 16 points and Samarrippas and Lanerryl Johnson scored 10 apiece for the Golden Eagles, of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Tennessee Tech made 17 of 22 free throws, including 10 of 12 in the second half, while the UMKC was 11 of 19 from the line.

Led by Fred Chatmon's 10 boards, the Kangaroos (7-22), of the Summit League, had a 37-32 rebounding advantage.

Nelson Kirksey had 16 points and Estan Tyler 14 for UMKC, which has lost three straight and eight of nine.
