Diehl sticks with Giants after major pay cut

National Football Post

David Diehl will remain with the New York Giants for the 2013 season but at a fraction of what he was scheduled to earn.

Diehl accepted a big pay cut to remain with the team, reducing his base salary from $4.475 million to $1 million. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants did agree to guarantee $200,000 to Diehl. The whole transaction reduced his salary cap number to $3.43 million and created $3.475 million in cap space for the club.

By doing so, Diehl avoided being released, which is what the Giants did with a handful of marquee players, including running back Ahmad Bradshaw, defensive tackle Chris Canty and linebacker Michael Boley.

Diehl spent the majority of last season at right tackle. It remains to be seen what his role will be this coming year.
