In the wake of the scandal created by Carlos Vela’s repeated refusal to play for the Mexican national team, another young El Tri star says he’d never turn down his country.
“Personally, I would never [turn down El Tri],” Diego Reyes told reporters on Thursday. “[Vela] will have his reasons, but personally I will always go.”
The Club America defender, who starred in the 2012 Olympic Summer Games, will have another chance with Mexico’s full team as he joins camp for next week’s friendly against Denmark in Phoenix.
After turning down the chance to play in the Olympics, Vela once again refused the call to join Mexico this week, this time for the Feb. 6 World Cup qualifier against Jamaica.
