Diamondbacks extend Ziegler's contract

The Arizona Diamondbacks and reliever Brad Ziegler reached an agreement Friday on a two-year, $9.5 million contract extension.

Ziegler tweeted the news and FOX Sports reported that the contract includes a club option. He is in the final year of his current deal.

Getting a new contract done now keeps Ziegler out of the free-agent market next season.

"Just agreed to an extension with the @Dbacks! Really excited to stay in Arizona for a couple more years, at least!" Ziegler tweeted Friday.

The 34-year-old veteran worked 73 innings last season and had 13 saves with a 2.22 ERA. Known as one of baseball's best ground-ball pitchers, Ziegler blew only two saves in 2013 and had 11 holds. His ERA the past two seasons is 2.35.
