Diamondbacks activate Chavez from disabled list

The Arizona Diamondbacks activated third baseman Eric Chavez from the disabled list on Friday after he had been sidelined since the end of May with a strained right oblique.

Chavez, 35, is hitting .325 with seven homers in 38 games this season, almost exclusively against right-handed pitching.

To make room on the roster, the Diamondbacks designated Eric Hinske for assignment. Hinske, 35, is hitting just .173.
