Premier League Preview: West Brom - Chelsea
Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo says he feels his club is being unfairly targeted and is not receiving the same treatment from referees as the rest of the Premier League.

Mark Clattenburg's controversial display at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, when he sent off both Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres as well as allowing what looked like an offside winning goal by Javier Hernandez, was followed by more drama in West London on Wednesday night in the Capital One Cup.

Referee Lee Mason awarded the Blues two penalties, and Manchester United one, in a thrilling 5-4 clash but Di Matteo feels his side should have had a third spot kick, and he has voiced his concerns over what he feels is a lack of consistency from match officials.

"It's incredible we got two players sent off in one game," Di Matteo told reporters. "At QPR [last season], one was correct and one was probably not correct. And on Sunday [against United] one was harsh and probably correct and the second one was 100 percent not correct, so it's incredible that always it's Chelsea Football Club.

"So maybe that's something to think about, you know? We just want to be treated fairly by everybody. Nobody is talking about the handball in the second half when we should have had a penalty."

On the topic of Clattenburg, with the club having officially lodged a formal complaint against the referee to the Football Association, Di Matteo hopes the outcome of that investigation will not have an impact on decisions involving the club in the near future.

"I think the referees should be going into the games with the most confidence they can have," Di Matteo said. "You know we're under pressure here - the players, the officials, the coaching staff - to perform, and I don't think there is any prejudice from that point of view."
